Today’s Question: Video is a powerful product marketing tool — but what about marketing your company to potential hires? In what way can companies effectively leverage video during the recruiting and hiring process?
These answers are provided by the Young Entrepreneur Council (YEC), an invite-only organization composed of the world’s most successful young entrepreneurs. YEC members represent nearly every industry, generate billions of dollars in revenue each year, and have created tens of thousands of jobs.
1. Introduce the Projects They’ll Be Working On
One way to use video in your quest for hiring new team members is to make an introduction video. Show potential hires the software they will be using, what they will be working on and what their finished project could look like. When prospects get a first-hand look at a job, they are more likely to fill out an application. — John Brackett, Smash Balloon LLC
2. Speak Directly to Candidates as a Company Leader
We use a video to recruit appointment setters. It’s a message from me, the founder of the business, talking about our mission, vision, and values. I talk about the role, what’s expected, and who is a good fit — and who isn’t. This allows candidates to have better insights into the company before they apply, which yields better candidates. — Ryann Dowdy, Uncensored Consulting, LLC
3. Leverage Social Media and Marketing Videos
Any quality candidate is going to do their research, so make sure your social media and all other marketing utilize video content to communicate your values and company culture, and you will attract prospective hires who are aligned with the mission and vision. Because social media also has such a strong impact, post videos that hard sell to potential employees with a call to action to apply. — Nic DeAngelo, We Buy Loans Fast
4. Go Behind-the-Scenes
Video is an amazing communication tool — and a great way to give potential hires a behind-the-scenes look at your company. Showing them what it’s like to work there, what the culture is like and what their potential co-workers are like can give them a much better sense of whether or not your company is the right fit for them. Plus, video can be a great way to show off your company’s personality. — Richard Fong, Assured Standard
5. Show Off the Local Area
Video is a great way to communicate culture and attract talent. If you are seeking someone whose skills are specific, and you are looking outside of your city, footage and information about the lifestyle and amenities in your area are useful. Applicants should be excited at the prospect of moving to a company with great benefits and to an area that appeals to their lifestyle. Video communicates these values. — Matthew Capala, Alphametic
6. Offer Video Interviews
Video is a powerful tool to recruit and hire. It can be used to showcase your company culture, convey your values and show off your team. It provides an immersive experience for job seekers who are looking for a new opportunity. Companies can leverage video through the use of video interviews. These interviews can be used as part of the interview process or as a stand-alone recruitment tool. — Kristin Kimberly Marquet, Marquet Media, LLC
7. Incorporate Video Into Your Training
Sharing your company culture in a video can give potential hires a clear idea of the work environment, the expectations and the team atmosphere. Remote companies can use video to showcase their company culture and team to potential new hires. Companies can also use videos in onboarding new hires. Creating sets of training videos can be a great way to onboard new employees. — Brian David Crane, Spread Great Ideas
8. Spice Up Your Next Job Fair
Incorporate video at a job fair. Job fairs are typically mundane affairs. Spice yours up with some clever and compelling company videos. You should see positive results. — Andrew Schrage, Money Crashers Personal Finance
